GM is Benchmarking a Ferrari SF90 Stradale: Potential C8 Corvette Zora Prototype

One of the most exciting aspects of observing Corvette engineers testing new prototypes is seeing which benchmark cars they use. Previously, GM has tested the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Ferrari 458 Italia, 488 GTB, and even an Acura NSX alongside pre-production E-Rays. These choices often hint at the features and capabilities of the new Corvette models under development.

This week, Chevy engineers were seen driving a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, a V8-powered plug-in hybrid with three electric motors. The SF90 boasts 769 horsepower from its V8 engine and an additional 217 horsepower from the electric motors, totaling nearly 1,000 horsepower. This powerhouse can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 211 mph. It's one of the fastest production cars available, with a starting price of $625,000.

The sighting of the Ferrari SF90 Stradale with C8 Corvette prototypes has fueled speculation that these could be the rumored Corvette Zora prototypes. Named after the first Chief Engineer of the Corvette, Zora Arkus-Duntov, the Corvette Zora is anticipated to debut around 2027-2028. It is expected to feature a twin-turbocharged V8 from the ZR1 combined with the E-Ray's performance hybrid system, creating an all-wheel-drive (AWD) sports car with 1,000 horsepower.

The Corvette engineers were seen testing in Vermillion, Ohio, where they stopped for lunch. The prototypes were covered, a practice not usually observed with current Corvette ZR1 prototypes. Following this sighting, another photo emerged, showing the prototypes in Pittsburgh, PA.

The public street testing by the Corvette engineering team has generated significant excitement and speculation. Corvette enthusiasts eagerly await more sightings and details.
