2025 Rivian R1T's Impressive Upgrade: Power, Range, and More
The 2025 Rivian R1T has arrived with a comprehensive update, delivering more power and an extended range of up to 420 miles. Rivian's latest iteration of their electric pickup truck brings significant changes under the hood while maintaining its familiar exterior.
Rivian R1T boosts power, expands range
The 2025 R1T looks much like its 2022 predecessor, but Rivian has implemented numerous improvements that enhance performance and efficiency. The updated model offers a choice between Dual-Motor, Performance Dual-Motor, and the new Tri-Motor configurations.
The Dual-Motor setup continues to produce 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. The Performance Dual-Motor version offers 665 horsepower and 829 pound-feet of torque. The Tri-Motor configuration, which combines the Dual-Motor's single front motor and the Quad-Motor's two rear motors, delivers an impressive 850 horsepower and 1103 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking the ultimate power, the Quad-Motor setup now offers 1025 horsepower and 1198 pound-feet of torque.
Enhanced Performance and Speed
The new R1T boasts remarkable acceleration capabilities. The Dual-Motor version accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while the Performance Dual-Motor achieves this in 3.4 seconds. The Tri-Motor configuration hits 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The top-tier Quad-Motor configuration reaches 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds, positioning it ahead of competitors like the Tesla Model X Plaid.
Rivian has also upgraded the tires, offering a range of options for different driving conditions. The Quad-Motor features new Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tires, with Pirelli and Goodyear options available for varying on-road and off-road needs.
Battery and Charging Enhancements
Rivian continues to offer three battery packs: Standard, Large, and Max. The Standard pack now uses lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry with 92.5 kilowatt-hours of usable energy, while the Large and Max packs use cylindrical lithium-ion cells with 109.4 and 141.5 kilowatt-hours, respectively. The Max pack, paired with a Dual-Motor setup, provides a range of up to 420 miles.
Charging has also improved, with peak rates of 200 kilowatts for the Standard pack and 220 kilowatts for the other two packs. However, Rivian has not yet included a NACS connector, though it is expected in the near future.
Technological Advancements
The R1T's chassis remains largely unchanged, but the model now features a zonal electrical architecture, reducing wire weight and enhancing manufacturability and serviceability. The Rivian Autonomy Platform introduces NVIDIA DRIVE Orin processors, 11 high-resolution cameras, and five radars, improving the vehicle's autonomous capabilities.
New software-defined headlights add aesthetic depth and functionality, including a Dynamic Bending Light feature and an Adaptive Drive Beam function. The light bars now have 10 segments of RGB lights, enabling various animations and signals for other drivers
