The cutting-edge EV aims to conquer the mountain.
Ford is pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle performance with its latest creation, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV Demonstrator. Set to tackle the iconic Pikes Peak on June 23, this groundbreaking EV promises to be a game-changer in the world of electric racing.
Ford has a history of innovation at Pikes Peak, and the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV continues this legacy. Last year, Ford Performance's SuperVan, based on a Transit EV, set an Open Class record with an 8:47.682 ET. This year, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, with its wild widebody aerodynamics and massive wing, aims to push the limits even further.
Ford Performance partnered with STARD Advanced Research and Development to build this high-performance truck. The SuperTruck's aero package can produce an astounding 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, ensuring it stays glued to the road. While Ford has yet to reveal the power and torque figures, the truck's performance is expected to be impressive.
Ford also released images of the SuperTruck EV in camo during testing, giving us a glimpse of what to expect. Although details are sparse, the automaker confirmed that the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV Demonstrator will serve as a testbed for electric powertrain research and development. Its performance at Pikes Peak will inform future software calibration and battery cell chemistry for production vehicles and race cars.
The F-150 Lightning SuperTruck is the second major project from Ford Performance, following the "Switchgear" developed with RTR racing. As the June 23 race approaches, all eyes will be on whether this innovative truck can break the SuperVan's record from last year.
